The other day we had fresh green beans for dinner. As we were pinching the ends and snapping them in half, I took the opportunity to try and have a little science lesson. I opened one of the beans and showed Bug how there were “little baby beans” inside. I don’t think she got much out of the lesson in terms of how things are grown, but she immediately latched onto the “BabyBean” and cradled it in her arms,
“Aw! BabyBean. So cute! We gonna take BabyBean in my strolla and we gonna go outside and we gonna go swing higha!”
(These days she typically will repeat a sentence like this with some minor additions and variations 2-4 times, just to make sure I know what we’re going to do.)
So we took this teeny tiny bean outside, we put it in the stroller and pushed it around, it sat in the swing, and it sat with Bug on the swing. When we finally came back inside, she put it next to her toys and told me it was playing with her toys.
At dinner, I asked her where BabyBean was (I was hoping she’d go get it and show J),
“BabyBean went outside. And went up high into the sky.
And Daddy gonna come with me and we gonna go in my spaceship up a ladder.
And we gonna get that bean.”
“Wow! You’ve got a spaceship?”
(Nods emphatically) “And I’m gonna need my space hat and roller skates.”
“You’re gonna wear roller skates in space?”
(Nods again) “You wanna come with me?”
“Yeah! I’d love to!”
“You gonna have to wear space hat.”
