Tiny Successes!
I had all but given up on potty training.
But on Saturday we spent the afternoon at a friends' pool, and out of nowhere Bug got out three times to go potty. She's crazy about swimming - so apparently she'll do just about anything to be able to keep swimming.
I decided that night that she has the skills to do this, and I'm just going to have to put my foot down and say NO MORE DIAPERS. So, on Sunday we stopped wearing diapers cold turkey (she's wearing a pull-up for nap/bedtime of course).
We haven't just stayed home either. Our lives can't stop again because I'm trying to let Bug run around the house in her birthday suit for a week. So I pack up extra clothes, towels, panties, plastic panties, clorox wipes, our travel potty seat, the Elmo potty, and plastic bags everywhere we go...
The first three days we went through a LOT of pairs of panties, and I found myself cleaning up a LOT of human excrement, but yesterday she made it through the WHOLE day with NO accidents!
Yippee Bug!

Super-fun follow up:
Today we went to the mall, and i got so daring as to not put her in the training panty/plastic panty combo... and just as I finally get the straw in her milk, and her nuggets cut up, and the lid off her fruit, and her toy unwrapped, and the ketchup just right, and the baby to sleep, and finally manage to take a bite of my sandwhich she says, "Oh. I need to go potty."
And I look down, and pee has pooled around her feet and is making a giant puddle on the floor in the middle of the mall food court.
I love being a Mommy.

Sitting Up (with a little help from sis)
Bug says: "Say cheeze-bu-ga, Bi."
"Cheeze-bu-ga!"
Leaning... leaning... but sitting up all by herself!
still leaning... and now she's on her tummy.
BabyAwesome seems to spend a lot of her life with this concerned look on her face. She's been mostly terrified of her whirlwind-of-a-big-sister, and probably because she's constantly being squealed at and poked. But lately, she's finding Bug to be a lot more entertaining than scary, and we're seeing some happy-smiley moments between them.
Tasty Tuesday - Kahlua Fruit Dip
I got this recipe off another blog a month or two ago, and have made it a couple times since then. If you like Kahlua, it's a really yummy and easy dip to make. We also used the leftovers (it makes alot) on strawberry shortcake, instead of the regular whipped cream.
Kahlua Fruit Dip
1 (3 1/2 oz.) pkg. of Instant vanilla pudding
8 oz. pkg. of Cool Whip
2-3 Tbsp. Kahlua
1 cup milk
Mix the pudding mix with 1 cup of milk for about 2 minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in the Cool Whip and Kahlua. Refrigerate for about 1 hour before serving. Can be refrigerated for about 1 week.

Four Months Old
Today BabyAwesome is FOUR MONTHS old! And as a little update to her crazy night schedule I can say things are going MUCH better now:
5/10/2010 Violet’s Night Waking Log (4 months)
7:00 bath, prayers, bed, asleep by 7:30
10:00 fuss/cry, J fed her 4oz bottle, asleep by 10:30
6:00 (I’m panicking) found her on her belly, fast asleep with her thumb in her mouth
7:20 I wake her up to start her day
Asleep Time: 7:30pm
Awake Time: 7:20am
Total number of awakenings: 1
Longest sleep span: 9 hours
Total hours of sleep: 12 hours
I have to admit this is the first time she’s done that, but for a few weeks now she’s only been waking up at 3 or 4am for a bottle.
So what changed? Well, for about a week now, we’ve been solely formula. That’s the biggest difference. But for awhile I pumped and gave it to her in bottles, and that helped a lot. When she was nursing she just wasn’t taking more than an ounce or two at a time, and with the bottles I could control her snacking. Another thing that has been great is the thumb sucking (remind me of this in a few years when I’m complaining about it), because it helps her soothe herself.
Things that are new for BabyAwesome:
Started blowing bubbles
Sucks her thumb/fingers all the time
Plays with her feet
Pushes up on her arms
Rolls from tummy to back like a champ, and can roll from her back to her side, and her side to her tummy, but not quite doing it all in one motion
Sitting up for a few seconds unsupported
She also had her checkup today, and here are the stats:
Weight: 11lbs 9oz (13%)
Length: 24-1/4in (53%)
J's Bi-annual Fishing Trip
About twice a year, J, his Dad, brother and their buddy Dan, go on a fishing trip and bring me home some yummy fresh fish to fill up my freezer. When the guys go out of town, I usually take the kids to my parent’s for the weekend and everyone has a fun time.
This time the boys took their trip a few weeks ago, and went to somewhere on lake Michigan “where we could see Chicago from our boat.” They chartered a boat, and spent most of the morning seasick, or nearly seasick on rough waters that weren’t much fun for anyone… until they finally gave up early and decided to head back.
The trip this year wasn’t a loss though- they discovered a stream nearby their hotel that had some of the biggest fish they have ever caught, and came home with a good catch for us all!
Tasty Tuesday - Easy Quiche
We had this delicious “breakfast for dinner” last week, and it was so easy and yummy it’s going straight into the recipe box! I don’t know if I really think it’s a quiche, but it’s tasty no matter what you call it. (And BTW, I used skim milk, reduced-fat cheese, only 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, light butter, extra lean pre-cubed ham, and the heart-smart bisquick for a point total of 5 points per serving - makes 8 servings.)
Easy Quiche
2 cups milk
4 eggs
3/4 cup biscuit baking mix
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 (10 ounce) package chopped frozen broccoli, thawed and drained
1 cup cubed cooked ham
8 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 10 inch quiche dish.
In a large bowl, beat together milk, eggs, baking mix, butter and parmesan cheese. Batter will be lumpy. Stir in broccoli, ham and Cheddar cheese. Pour into prepared quiche dish.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes, until eggs are set and top is golden brown.
