Yesterday, at 3 months, 2 weeks and 1 day old, BabyAwesome rolled over! And over, and over... Now every time we put her on her tummy she flips over.
Tasty Tuesday - Meatball Nirvana
Tasty Tuesday is back! I know, you missed it so very much.
Here's a favorite recipe we've been having a lot lately, it freezes well, and I got it from all recipes. (Although I've tweaked it just a teeny bit to save some time and calories.) These meatballs have a bit of a kick, so if you're not into the spice just leave out the red pepper flakes... although this version is not too spicy for my two year old. And P.S. it's 1 point per meatball.
Meatball Nirvana
1 pound extra ground turkey
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (org recipe called for 3/4t)
1 dash hot pepper sauce (such as Frank's RedHot®), or to taste
1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup skim milk
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
Preheat an oven to 400 degrees F.
Place the ground turkey into a mixing bowl, and season with salt, onion powder, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, oregano, red pepper flakes, hot pepper sauce, and Worcestershire sauce; mix well. Add the milk, Parmesan cheese, and bread crumbs. Mix until evenly blended, then form into 1 1/2-inch meatballs, and place onto a baking sheet. (One pound of turkey should make 16 meatballs.)
Bake in the preheated oven until no longer pink in the center, 20 to 25 minutes.

Nothing Like a Good Night's Rest
So, BabyAwesome is not such an awesome sleeper. In fact, I blame it mostly on the colic – really, when she did manage to be quiet and sleep we just pretty much let her do what she wanted because she was SLEEPING! So now that she’s 14 weeks old, and mostly happy and fun to be around, and our daytime naps are getting more consistent, I’ve decided that we must work on getting our nights under control.
When I have a problem I read a book. I’m a reader. So I’ve delt with the Baby Whisperer, The Happiest Baby on the Block, Baby Wise, and now I’m currently on my way through the No-Cry Sleep Solution. (BTW, I’ve had much success with the Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems and would recommend it… except for the woman is NO HELP when it comes to colic, and actually says tough sh*t, guess you’ll have to live with it. What?!)
Anyhoo, there is a point here.
For the No-Cry Sleep Solution I’m supposed to write down in the night when/how baby sleeps. And although I have felt like the waking dead lately, I was pretty certain that BabyAwesome had been getting up in the night about 3 times.
So last night, I followed the book to the T and here is my log:

4/20/10 - 14 weeks old
9:00 (started going down at 8:20) finally asleep, slept for 1 hour
10:06 dream feed (she didn't wake me) nursed 15 min, down at 10:21, slept for 2 1/4 hours
12:47 cry/scream shush/pat/paci, down at 12:52, slept for 1 hour
2:04 cry/scream nursed, asleep at 2:12, slept for 6 min
2:15-18 whimpered I stayed in bed and listened, then she cried: changed diaper, swaddled, turned sheep on, rocked, paci 2:23, slept for 2 1/2 hours
5:00-05 murmured I stayed in bed and listened, then she cried: nursed to asleep, put in crib and woke up - did this twice… then rocked w/ paci (had to fight to get paci in) turned on sheep, asleep at 5:16, slept for 15 min
5:31 cry/scream gave paci, pat, asleep at 5:33, slept for 45 min
6:15 cry gave paci, rocked, asleep at 6:18, slept for 45 min
7:25 cooing/talking: up for the day
Asleep Time: 9:00pm
Awake Time: 7:25am
Total number of awakenings: 7
Longest sleep span: 2 1/2 hours
Total hours of sleep: 10 1/2
What the heck?!!! She got up SEVEN TIMES? And nursed three times!? She’s almost FOUR months old!!!

And why we need to solve these sleep issues ASAP before Mommy has a breakdown.

Scene: The three month old is laying on the activity mat under a blazillion toys, and making screeching noises that are just on the verge of hysterical - somewhere between happy cooing and I’m going to loose it any minute now. The two year old is leaning over her face ascloseasshecanget without smothering touching her.
Mom is just out of eyesight, and overhears:
“What Baby? You love me? Ah, I love you too baby.”

a perfect day
Today was a wonderful day. The stars aligned for both our girls.
After weeks and weeks of screaming and unpredictable days and nights, Vi took two good naps (in her crib) and a little catnap in the evening. She was fun to be around, and we had a really great day.
I had to work really hard, shushing and patting for the past five days to get her to sleep in her crib. The past week or so, it has taken me at least 45 minutes, but more like 2 hours to get her to sleep in her crib at night.
Today, she went to sleep with about two minutes of fussing. And for her afternoon nap, she went to sleep with out crying at all.
As if this wasn’t enough to celebrate a wonderful day, MissBug also reached a huge milestone today.She peed and pooped on the potty.
She was naked and felt the urge to go, and asked to put her diaper back on. When I refused, she went into a total melt down because she said the big potty was “too scary.”
Once I got her calmed back down (and a quick phone call to my Mom), I sat her down on her little Elmo potty in front of Wonder Pets with a popsicle. I don’t know if she even noticed that she went at first. But when I showed her, it was like I could see a light bulb go on in her head when she finally realized what we’ve been trying to get through to her for almost a year now.
And all it took was some naked time, a popsicle, and a little Elmo potty.
After that moment she went another five or so times, we called everyone we could to tell them about it, and she even managed to poop in it too!
I have to remember this day. Write it down and read about it over and over again. So that when tomorrow the potty is no longer a novelty and the napping is once again a challenge I can hold on to this feeling and remind myself how awesome this day was.

Three Months
At three months old, Baby Awesome can:
smile and coo
reach for toys
throw a mean temper tantrum
roll over on to her side
She can not:
sleep through the night
play hide and seek with Miss Bug
We're working diligently on getting into some kind of a napping routine. Today marks four days of taking at least one nap a day in her bed! (Previously she's been sleeping on the dryer - not in it - in her car seat, on it.) She's a strong willed little bugger.
And though she has definitely been colicky these last 12 weeks, she's on the upswing. It's hard for me to believe but BOTH girls are actually napping at the SAME TIME right now. Words cannot describe to you the joy this brings to me. The sanity this brings to me.

Over the weekend and all our get togethers, I took over 100 pictures... and somehow, I managed to forget to get a picture of the whole fam together. But here are some other good ones anyway.
We had two wonderful Easters - one at each grandparent's house, with lots of family and lots of laughs. And plenty of Easter egg hunts. And lots of ham.
And in preparation for the big day, we (of course) decorated eggs. Miss Bug took the lead, and we weren't able to help at all. She was quite the little artist.
