Yes, of course we went to the State Fair.

Yes, of course we ate a turkey leg and a chocolate milkshake for breakfast.

Yes, of course we rode a tractor, an elephant, and the Ferris Wheel.

Yes, of course we fed the animals, got our hands dirty and had a fabulous time.

We wouldn't miss the fair. Not if I can help it, anyway.

Trip to Mississippi

At the end of July, the girls and I drove 10 hours with my parents to Mississippi to visit my grandpa "Poppy," my Mom's Dad.

He and my Uncle Barry live on my Great-Grandparent's farm just outside Oxford, MS. My Great-Grandfather built the house himself, and while it's not the working farm it once was, it is settled on the top of a hill, over looking farm fields and cows, surrounded by a great blue sky.

For, me, Mississippi is heat, and red dirt, and sweet tea, biscuits and bacon, pork BBQ, fried catfish, and gravel roads, kudzu, and calm and slow.

Still Here!

I got a rash tonight at bookclub about not posting anymore... but to tell the truth, I've been avoiding the Internet all-together.

I'm going to give it my BEST effort to get back to keeping up with the blog. Here's a quick recap of what's been going on in our lives, and I'll try my best to get some posts elaborating on the major ones:

We had a super-fun camping trip with these friends, these friends, and these friends. Hoping it will become and annual event.

We have had ANOTHER flood of our house since the first flood... this time was WAY worse. That day we got the basement full to the brim. So, that's been keeping things pretty buys around here. Working on some major house renovations and regrading our entire yard. J goes to work all day, then comes home and works all night.

Lily had her very first dance recital. It was awesome. SO CUTE.

Lily played soccer for about 2 weeks. Two practices and one game... that was all she was up for. After that she decided her feet were tired and her ball "moved too slow."

We also gave swimming lessons for Lily a shot. That too was less-than successful.

We do ALL love swimming though! Justin's parent's got a pool that we've been loving this summer, and my parent's just started putting one in this week!

Violet is 18 months old now! She's a super busy girl. Cares nothing for sitting still, TV, or eating. But loves doing ANYTHING her big sister does, her blankie and her shoes!

Around the time of our first flood (Easter) I started cloth diapering. Yup. I went off. the. deep. end. And I'm really enjoying it. We still have to use disposables when she has diaper rash, or when it floods and we loose our water softener... but otherwise, we're cloth and I'm not planning on going back.

The girls and I have lots of short trips here and there planned all summer long. Two weeks ago we went to Cincinnati to visit Aunt Jamie and the zoo and had a great time. Coming up we're planning on visiting my grandpa in Mississippi, and taking a couple long family weekends camping and cabin-ing.

Yes, there are lots more events that have happened in the months since I last posted. But, I'd say those are some of the high (and low) points. Here's to hoping I manage to get back on again this week.

Happy Earth Day!

In the midst of all the chaos, we still managed to plant a tree in honor of earth day last week. :)

Busy Days & Wishes

Justin has been in China for work for the past seven days.

We have been keeping very busy in order to distract ourselves from the loss of his presence. We spent the weekend with my parents and had a great time at the Children’s Museum. MissViolet has sprouted a toddler’s personality in the past month and suddenly adores playing dress up. (Pics to come.)

Yesterday we went to Great Wolf Lodge with Moo-moo (J’s mom), Aunt Lori, Wesley, Tucker for the night. (It was super-fun. I highly recommend it. And go on a weekday if you can, ‘cuz the pool wasn’t busy or crowded at all.) We shared the fun with Poppy, Great-Aunt Jamie, Cousins Brandy, James, Mia, and Brenna today.

At the end of our wild two-day adventure, GA Jamie bought all the kids a “build-a-bear” type of souvenir. As they filled & stuffed their new toys they got to put a star into the bear and make a wish.

As MissLily was filling hers, I asked, “What did you wish for?”

Her reply, “I wish for my Daddy to come home.”

Choke back a sob... “Me. Too.”

Trips to the Orchard

I love fall!

One of our favorite things to do in the fall is go to the orchard. We have one about three minutes from our house, so we go just about every week from August through October. It's too hard to have 50 cent apple slushies just minutes from your home, and not take advantage of them.
